Subject: 194 down, one billion to go My wife and I are somewhat of nature
lovers. We like flowers, birds, and most animals... WE HATE SQUIRRELS!!
They are destructive, devious, and nothing more than glorified rats.
Last year I bought a pellet rifle that uses CO2 cartridges — no pumping
required. To date, I have picked off 194 of these varmints. My wife has
accounted for 22 on her own! Just last week she nailed one from 40 feet
in an oak tree right above me. One shot and the gray fell. When it hit
the ground it sounded like one glorious thud! GREAT SHOT! I was so proud
of her. I'm thinking about getting her a rifle of her own, personalized
with pearl grips, etc.
One she shot actually was grunting at her
like it was mad...I can't even imitate the sound, but to me it sounded
like it knew it was a goner and was telling her off!
When we first started killing the pests,
we worried about the neighbors and what they would say. Now they
actually come over and tell us what a good job we're doing! I've also
noticed how nice my lawn looks without the holes they used to create all
over the place. My magnolia bloomed this year...last year all the buds
were eaten by reds. My two crabapple trees are beginning to show vast
improvement. None of their young branches are broken this year, unlike
last year!
I have a neighbor in back that has a
beautifully landscaped yard. He watched me shoot one and finally asked
what was going on. I told him how many I had nailed and relieved him of
worry. He had found quite a few dead squirrels on his property and was
worried that something he was putting on the plants was poisoning the
squirrels and other friendlier, less destructive creatures. I assured
him that the dead squirrels were a result of our sharp shooting efforts
and not his plant fertilizers!
We bought two t-shirts about six weeks
ago and we're waiting for the weather to break so we can show them off
without freezing our butts off! Great web sight!
