Subject: Attacked by squirrels Dear SDL,
I am a 22-year-old Daytona Beach, Fla.,
resident. Several months ago while on my way to work I was ambushed by
almost a dozen squirrels. As I walked to my car to leave for work , they
pelted me with pine cones and acorns. The cuts from the pine cones
required stitches.
These squirrels are highly territorial
and the female had just given birth and was protecting her nest. This
turned into a community effort and have been repeating these attacks on
a regular basis. Their nest is high up in tree that has roots in the
center of our yard, but branches off into neighboring yards, so the
problem is slightly out of our control, we cannot cut down the tree for
its sheer size without damaging our roof or neighboring roofs.
Squirrels have became such a nuisance
that I've decided to move, but ran into trouble when our realtor had to
disclose our reason for moving. Now families with young children and the
elderly are dissuaded from buying the property.
Dealings with animal control proved
unsuccessful.
