Subject: HELP!!! Squirrel terrorizing house
I have a NUISANCE animal around my house that we cannot get rid of— none other than a squirrel. I discovered about six weeks ago that he was living in my attic. We noticed that one side of my house had shifted slightly at the top on the upstairs level. The wood had separated from the bricks and the squirrel had dug a hole that allowed him entrance. On a Saturday I called a wild animal trapper to see if he could find the squirrel and get rid of him. When the trapper arrived, the squirrel was not in the house.
The trapper went to work diligently to attempt to animal proof my house. He sealed up the vents on top of the house with mesh wiring and closed up the holes with some type of sealant. He then sprayed bat repellent which is supposed to keep the squirrel away from the house. Well, guess what? The squirrel ate through the sealant, and, obviously, the repellent did NOT discourage him or her at all; and this was not free, of course.
The following Saturday, I paid quite a sum of money to have a contractor come out and fix the opening at the top of the house by adding a board to close up the hole. The contractor did a great job, matched the paint perfectly; and I was happy. However, the next morning when we came home from church, we noticed that the squirrel had chewed some of the new wood away. We went out to eat later and when we arrived back to the house, the NUISANCE was chewing away more wood!
This squirrel is costing us too much money and causing damage to my house. I can’t afford to have him around. The only solution that anyone has to offer so far is to shoot him with a pellet gun. The problem, of course, is catching him. I am really afraid that when I return home today, this NUISANCE will have chewed more wood and reentered my attic. The contractor and the wild animal trapper both think that the squirrel has built a nest in the attic, and that is why he/she is so persistent about getting back in. I want him DEAD NOW!
